Welcome A.R. Henrickson (aka Ms. Hen's Pen) to the Xcel Energy Author's Corner & Bookstore at Norsk Hostfest! A.R. Henrickson has written about Mackinac Island, philanthropist John Ball, and the fictional Lottie Gunderson, Girl Scientist. Her most recent book, Lara of the North is about fifteen-year-old Lara who labors alongside her family on a landowner’s farm in Northern Iceland. When Lara and some friends travel to Iceland’s Parliamentary Althing in the summer of 1705, she is thrust alone into an unexpected three-year journey. A murder, a marriage, and a deadly disease take her from rugged Iceland to the rocky, windswept Faroe Islands, and on to Norway where she connects with long-lost family. A.R. Henrickson loves to travel and she embraces her Scandinavian heritage while living in West Michigan among the Dutch.

About Ms. Hen

Ms. Hen has been writing children’s and non-fiction books since 2011 when she began to annually attend the Iowa Writers’ Summer Festival.

About Lottie Gunderson, Girl Scientist, Ms. Hen says, “Girls can be anything: scientists, mathematicians, astronauts. Girls are so much more than glittery princesses or silly fairies; they are self-reliant problem-solvers.”

John Ball is a biography of West Michigan pioneer who donated the land for the Grand Rapids, Michigan park and zoo that bears his name. You know those games where you're supposed to name someone you'd like to have dinner with? Now Ms. Hen says she would pick the amazing John Ball.

Let's Explore Mackinac Island, includes history, highlights, travel tips, a walking tour, a quiz, and many illustrations including photos and maps. Kids can use it for school reports; families planning a trip will find it invaluable with all the information compiled into one handy book.

A.R. Henrickson (aka Ms.Hen) has two grown children, two grandchildren, and two kitties. Her favorite color is orange and she loves to travel. As a resident of West Michigan, she embraces her Scandinavian heritage while living among the Dutch.
